Arafat for the first time in Ramallah, 30 December 1995
- Rula Halawani
Description: As the helicopter carrying PLO chairman Yasser Arafat lands in Ramallah, dust blows up and blinds the assembled dignitaries and guests, including, nuns, priests, sheikhs and ordinary citizens. Arafat landed and went on to address a crowd of several tens of thousands of Palestinians. This is just three days after the end of the Israeli military occupation of Ramallah and it was Arafat's first visit to Ramallah since his return to Palestine after a long exile.
